Supportive Leadership
After reading about Level 5 leadership and the Yuki summary the supportive leadership behavioral model was the most compelling to me. It discusses creating a relationship with employees and building their trust. When an employee trusts a manager they are more willing to work harder for them, making it easy for the manager to rely on them. They will not be afraid to discuss personal issues outside of work that may be affecting their performance. Treating employees with respect and having an open door policy creates a supportive atmosphere where employees consider their work environment a positive place where they feel at ease to let their personal human qualities shine. It also recognizes them for their contributions made and lets them know they are an important piece of the puzzle within the organization. This theory can be applied by being sure to thank employees daily for their help within the organization and recognizing them for a job well done or a guest compliment within 24 hours. Another way to practice this is by having coffee with every employee to cerate those relationships, build that trust and finding out what motivates them. All while making sure you are showing your genuine care and support for them.
